Subject matter should not be the main aim of teaching, rather it is the medium through which all learning difficulties are discovered and ultimately overcome.
Discovering how you learn should be an adventure!
Terms like ‘hyperactive child’ ‘ADD and ADHD’ are fundamentally disempowering. Instead of giving a child the opportunity to overcome, they are labeled. But labels are heavy. We must realize that everyone learns differently and there is no “normal”. By changing the conversation and the way we teach children we can understand that discovering how we learn as individuals can and should be a grand adventure! Dis-ability becomes This-ability and we are able to find that what makes us unique actually makes us stronger.
You see, I was that child. Struggling in school they always just told me to “do better”. No one seemed to understand that the way they were teaching me was simply not my best way to learn. I believed in my heart that there had to be another way to learn…
Over the last 20 years parents, teachers and caretakers have been bringing children with learning difficulties to my clinic for help. My work here has been very dynamic and is in a changing process all the time. Sometimes we do puzzles, sometimes physical exercises. Each day is as unique as the child in front of me. But the results we have experienced together, the transformations that I have witnessed, have changed my life and theirs forever.
Not just overcoming, these children are becoming more of themselves. I created this blog to share their amazing stories with you.
